The Return’s Top 10: No. 8 – UAB Wins Program-Best Eight Games

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Coming in at No. 8 on the list of UAB football's top 10 moments of its historic 2017 season is the team recording a program-best eight FBS wins.
Entering the final game of the season against UTEP with seven victories, the Blazers used a 28-7 win over the Miners to surpass the 2000 and 2004 teams who each won seven games.
Of the eight wins on the season, the Blazers also picked up six conference wins and six wins at Historic Legion Field, both of which are program bests.
A record-setting crowd of 45,212 fans witnessed UAB's return to the gridiron on Sept. 2 as the Green and Gold toppled the Alabama A&M Bulldogs 38-7 for their first win of the season to mark the return of UAB football.
One of the most memorable wins of the season came on Oct. 7 as the Blazers hosted the reigning Conference USA West Division Champions in Louisiana Tech. With three seconds remaining on the clock and the Bulldogs lined up for a game-winning field goal, junior Stacy Keely used his 6-7 frame to not only block the attempt but also make the the game-saving tackle to secure the 23-22 win.
UAB's victory marked the first over Louisiana Tech marked the first win over the Bulldogs in school history and was the first C-USA win of The Return.
Four of UAB's eight wins, including the victory over Louisiana Tech, were decided by seven points or less. The Blazers used a defense stand in the final seconds of the Middle Tennessee game to top the Blue Raiders, 25-23, while edging out Coastal Carolina 30-23 and UTSA, 24-19.
A 52-21 win over Rice saw UAB earn bowl eligibility for the second consecutive season and just the fifth time in program history.
The Blazers are less than three weeks away from playing in their second-ever bowl game. UAB (8-4) is set to play Ohio University (8-4) in the Bahamas Bowl on Dec. 22 at 11:30 a.m. CST on ESPN.
