BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- Conference USA individual champion Elinor Kirk and her UAB teammate Kate Brown were both named Thursday to the 2013 C-USA Cross Country Women's All-Academic Team.
UAB is one of two schools with a pair of student-athletes listed on the seven-member team. Middle Tennessee was also represented by two runners, with Charlotte, Southern Miss and UTSA filling the other spots on the team.
Kirk, from Swansea, Wales, added the conference academic honor to her list of accomplishments that included the conference championship she won two weeks ago at Denton, Texas. The communications studies major carries a 4.00 GPA and was named to the 2012 USTFCCCA All-Academic Team.
Brown, like Kirk, is a graduate student and also holds a 4.00 GPA, majoring in communication management. Brown has a pair of top six individual finishes as she helped the Blazers to team titles at the Troy Invitational and the Azalea City Classic. In 2012, she earned All-Conference USA Third Team honors at the league championship meet.
Kirk, Brown and their UAB teammates will run Friday at the 2013 NCAA South Regional Championships in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
