BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – UAB cross country runner Elinor Kirk is the UAB Student-Athlete of the Week, as announced on Wednesday. This award recognizes UAB student-athletes who excel on and off their respective fields of competition.
This past weekend, Kirk was the top Blazer runner at the Indiana State Pre-National Invitational. Kirk completed the 6k course in 21:04.36, good enough for 54th place.
In 2013, the graduate student has finished in first place on two occasions, earning Conference USA Female Cross Country Athlete of the Week after both performances. In addition, the Swansea, Wales native has been the top Blazer finisher in each event the squad has participated in this season.
Off the trails, Kirk excels in the classroom. The communications management graduate student owns a 4.0 overall GPA. Last year, Kirk earned the Conference USA Academic Medal, given to C-USA student-athletes with a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or better. She also was named to the Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll, awarded to student-athletes with a 3.0 overall GPA or above.
Kirk and the Blazers’ cross country team will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 2 when it participates in the Conference USA Championships in Denton, Texas.
