BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--The UAB cross country team will return to the state of Illinois this weekend, this time to the city of Peoria, to participate in the 2012 Bradley Classic 6K race on Friday.
Along with UAB and host Bradley, the field includes Bowling Green, Creighton, Danville, DePaul, Drake, Eastern Illinois, Eureka, Illinois, Illinois State, IPFW, IUPUI, Kaskaskia, Lincoln, Marquette, Northern Illinois, Northern Iowa, Northwestern, Oakland, Purdue, Saint Louis, Southern Illinois, Western Illinois, Western Michigan, Wisconsin-Green Bay and Wisconsin Milwaukee.
Last time out, the Blazers competed in the 40th annual Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational in Chicago. In the 514-person field, junior Elinor Kirk finished the 5K race with a time of 17:32 for third place, while senior Sarah Hudak was four seconds behind for fifth place (17:36). As a team, UAB finished 21st of 51 teams.
The Bradley Classic will be the Blazers' final tune-up before the 2012 Conference USA Cross Country Championship, set for Monday, Oct. 29, in Hattiesburg, Miss.
