Hey Blazer fans!
This past week has been a week off from meets so we've had much more time for practice. Since I'm a freshman and haven't run in any races so far this season I won't talk about the races. What I can tell you though is that our team has a tremendous team spirit. After the trip to North Carolina something changed, we went from being a bunch of individuals to a team. We all got to know each other much better and I consider myself lucky to be a part of this team.
I'm not only a freshman, but this is also my first time in America. Although it was a big change, it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. For me, one of the main reasons for coming to the U.S. was to have someone to run with. Here at UAB you never feel like you're alone. The southern hospitality really applies to UAB and the cross country team. Even though we train early in the mornings, everyone is almost always in a good mood for our run.
The training here isn't much different from the training I'm used to back home in Sweden. The hardest part was to learn to practice early in the mornings, but I don't think I'm the only one who's not used to that. On the other hand considering how hot it had been this past month, I would never even consider doing a workout in the afternoon. The heat is definitely something I'm not used to, but that is also something that you slowly learn to cope with. Now we have to learn how to cope with cold weather as well. I swear this morning it was even colder than in Sweden, and I honestly considered wearing mittens.
This Saturday we have a home meet in Hoover and I hope that all Blazer fans will be there to support our team because we are going to win this! All the girls are extremely fit right now so this is the time to show people that we are definitely going to be among the top teams in our conference. Believe it or not UAB's track girls will also run this race. They will hopefully not complain too much and do really well.
So Blazer fans if you don't have anything to do on Saturday, now you know what you're up to. If you have something to do already, you still don't have a good enough excuse for not being there, so basically just be there!
