BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--The UAB cross country team heads to Chicago this weekend for the Loyola University Chicago's 40th Annual Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational on Saturday. The collegiate women's 5K is scheduled for 11:45 a.m. CT.
Last time out, the Blazers traveled to Mobile, Ala. to compete in the Azalea City Cross Country Classic, where the team finished in fourth out of the 15-team field. Senior runner Sarah Hudak won her third race of the season with a personal best 6K time of 21:53.50. For her efforts, Hudak was named Conference USA Athlete of the Week for the second straight week.
In her Blazer debut, junior Elinor Kirk finished in second place with a time of 21:58.92. Sophomore Kristie Leybourne recorded her third top-20 finish of the season with a time of 23:35.12 for 17th place.
Sophomore Jenna Wesley finished with a time of 25:43.84 for the 53rd position of the 115-person field, while senior Rachel Harley crossed the line in 61st place with a time of 25:59.41.
Up next, the Blazers will return to Illinois to race in the Bradley Classic on Friday, Oct. 12 for the squad's final tune-up before the 2012 Conference USA Championships on Oct. 29 in Hattiesburg, Miss.
