BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--The UAB cross country team will be back in action Saturday morning for the 2012 Azalea City Cross Country Classic, hosted by South Alabama at the Brookley Pines Golf Course in Mobile, Ala. The women's 6K race is scheduled for 8:05 a.m. CT.
Joining UAB and South Alabama, who won the race in 2011, are Alabama State, Auburn, Auburn-Montgomery, Delta State, Jackson State, Millsaps, Mobile, Western Louisiana, Spring Hill, Tougaloo, Troy, Tulane, West Florida, William Carey and Xavier-Louisiana.
Last week, the Blazers ran at the 2012 Auburn Invitational, where senior Sarah Hudak won the 4K and set a personal best with a time of 14:20.09. For the effort of winning her second-consecutive race, the Manchester, England native was named Co-Conference USA Female Athlete of the Week. Overall, UAB finished in seventh place.
Junior Kate Brown made her Green and Gold debut last week, and crossed the finish line in ninth place with a time of 15:06.6.
In the 93-person field, sophomore Kristie Leybourne finished in the top-30 for the second consecutive race with a time of 15:46.9 for the 26th position, and junior Rachel Harley finished the 4k with a time of 16:47.0 for 51st place.
Up next, UAB will leave the state for the first time this season, traveling to Illinois to run in Loyola University of Chicago's Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 29.
