BIRIMGHAM, Ala.--UAB's Sarah Hudakwas named Co-Conference USA Female Athlete of the Week this week after finishing in first place and shaving more than a minute off her person best in the 4K at last Friday's 2012 Auburn Invitational. This marks Hudak's first career weekly honor.
The Manchester, England native crossed the finish line with a time of 14:20.9, more than 10 seconds ahead of the runner up. The senior runner's previous best in the 4K, 15:11.10, was set at the same meet in 2011. As a team, the Blazers finished in seventh place.
The first-palce effort by Hudak also marked her second individual title in as many meets this season.
"This is a good step for us," cross country head coach Tony Houchinsaid. "It's quite an accomplishment for Sarah. It's been awhile since we've had a conference athlete of the week, and I think it really reflects how well we can do both individually and as a whole team.
Hudak and the Blazer cross country team will be back in action on Saturday, traveling to Mobile, Ala. to run in the 6K of the Azalea City Cross Country Classic, hosted by South Alabama.
