BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- UAB's Elinor Kirk was named the Conference USA Female Cross Country Athlete of the Week Tuesday after capturing first place last weekend at the Trojan Invitational, the Blazers' first meet of the 2013 season.
Kirk, a graduate student at UAB, crossed the finish line with a winning 3K time of 10:27.52 to lead the Blazers to the team title at the meet Friday in Troy, Ala.
The 2012 All-C-USA first teamer edged Blazer teammate Kirsty Addy by 21 seconds (10:49.09) for her first title of the 2013 season. Kate Brown and Lauren Scott also posted top-10 finishes for UAB with times of 11:04.34 and 11:10.62, respectively.
The Blazers were among seven teams competing in the meet.
This marks Kirk's first career C-USA Female Cross Country Athlete of the Week honor.
