BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--The UAB cross country team will open the 2012 season in Tuscaloosa, Ala. on Saturday at the Crimson Tide Cross Country Kickoff, hosted by Alabama. The 3k race is scheduled for 9 a.m. CT.
Joining UAB and host Alabama will be Southern Miss, Samford, West Alabama, and Alabama A&M at the Harry Pritchett Running Course.
Leading the Blazers this season is senior Sarah Hudak. The Manchester, England native ran in all six races last season and placed in the top-10 twice, taking second in the UAB-Samford Dual meet (Sept. 1) and eighth at the Auburn Invitational (Sept. 9). Joining Hudak are sophomore returners Kristie Leybourne, Jenna Wesley, and Kara Woods.
New to the squad in 2012 are seniors Rachel Harley, who competed with the track team for the last three seasons and Pascale Pinard, formerly of the UAB women's soccer team. Both will add much-needed depth to the cross country squad.
The Crimson Tide Cross Country Kickoff marks the first of three races the Blazers have scheduled in the state of Alabama. UAB will compete in the Auburn Invitational in Auburn, Ala. on Sept. 7, and then travel to Mobile, Ala. for the Azalea City Cross Country Classic on Sept. 15.
