NEW ORLEANS, La. – UAB’s women's cross country program was one of 242 teams that earned All-Academic accolades from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association last week. The Blazers posted a cumulative team GPA of 3.35 last fall en route to the honor.

“This award shows the ladies commitment to being the best student-athletes in and out of the classroom,” head coach Matt Esche said. “They did a tremendous job improving on last year’s GPA. Being an excellent student always goes hand-in-hand with being great athletes.”

The Blazers were one of seven Conference USA teams to win the award, with UAB’s GPA the fourth-highest.

National Champion Oregon was tabbed the Scholar Team of the Year with its 3.42 GPA, while Georgia State reported the nation's highest GPA at 3.85.

To qualify, teams must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better and started at least five runners at their respective NCAA regional championship meet.
