BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB cross country team has been named one of the NCAA Division 1 All-Academic Teams by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for the 10th straight year. The Blazers boasted a 3.45 team cumulative GPA for the 2011 season.
A total of 205 institutions represent 30 conferences that compose the group. The Big East led all converences with 14 teams earning All-Academic honors and was followed by the Pac-12 followed with 11.
To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better and have started at least five runners at their respective NCAA regional championship.
Four Blazers achieved a perfect 4.00 GPA during the 2011 season in senior mathematics major Rhiannon Johns, senior biology major Kristina Vaughn and senior business majors Colleen Standridge and Lucy Taylor.
The UAB cross country team ran to a 12th-place finish out of 27 teams at the NCAA South Regional hosted by Alabama at Harry Pritchett Cross Country Course in Tuscaloosa, Ala. on Nov. 12 to finish out its 2011 season.
