HOUSTON--Three Blazers earned all-conference honors as the UAB cross country team finished sixth out of 12 teams at the C-USA Championship on Monday hosted by Rice.
“It was good to have three all-conference runners today,” head coach Tony Houchin said. “Conference USA is a tough conference.”
UAB’s Rhiannon Johns placed ninth individually with a 17:33.70 time, earning second-team all-conference accolades. Senior Kristina Vaughn crossed the line at 17:54.40 to finish 16th, and junior Sarah Hudak finished with a season-best time 18:04.10 to place 21st. Both earned third-team all-league honors.
The first 21 women to cross the finish line were named to the All-C-USA first (1-7), second (8-14) and third (15-21) teams.
SMU’s Silje Fjortoft won the individual meet title with a time of 16:06.80 to lead the Mustangs to the team title with 57 points. Tulsa placed second with 59 points and Rice rounded out the top three with 83 points.
Seniors Lucy Taylor and Lauren Fayen capped off the top five finishers for the Blazers. Taylor recorded a time of 19:32.90 to place 60th, while Fayen followed right behind in 61st with a time of 19:34.40.
The Blazers return to action on Saturday, Nov. 12 at the NCAA Regional South Championship in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
