TROY, Ala. ----- Graduate students Elinor Kirk and Kirsty Addy finished one-two individually in the Trojan Invitational 3k race on Friday night, helping the UAB cross country team to the team title with 31 points.
Kirk crossed the finish line with a time of 10:27.52, besting teammate Addy by just over 21 seconds (10:49.09). Kate Brown and Lauren Scott also posted top-10 finishes with times of 11:04.34 and 11:10.62, respectively.
With 31 team points, the Green and Gold finished 19 points ahead of second place Auburn (50) and 54 points ahead of Georgia State, who finished in third with 85 points.
“This meet gave us a good sense of where we are early in the season,” said head coach Anthony Houchin. “Whereas we still have a lot to work on and a long way to go, I’m really happy with where we are this early in the season”
In total, the Blazers placed four runners in the top-10 and had seven runners finish in the top-20.
Rachel Harley (11:19.37) and Sarah Livett (11:20.65) finished in 12th and 13th place, respectively. Lindsay Miller also had a strong showing, placing 19th with a time of 11:30.18.
The UAB cross country will be back in action on Sept. 14, when they travel to Mobile, Ala. for the Azalea City Classic hosted by South Alabama.
