John David Harris, who spent two years at Wichita State as an assistant with the Shockers' cross country and track and field program, is in his second year as an assistant coach at UAB.
Harris works primarily with the UAB sprinters and jumpers.
Harris is a graduate of Emporia State University, where he competed on the Hornets track team as a middle distance runner. He earned all-conference honors four times and was named academic all-conference four times.
Following his time at ESU, he coached one season at Jefferson City High School in Jefferson City, Mo. While there, he coached the men's team sprinters, including the 4x400 relay team that won the state championship.
"We are excited about having John David join our program," said Stanfield. "We interviewed several people and had a great response for the position. John David has experience as a coach, an athlete and has a great passion for the sport."
Harris hails from Emporia, Kan., where he graduated from Emporia High School.
