Serley Named UAB's First Ever Three-Time All-Region Player

Sam Serley led C-USA in hitting percentage and blocks per set this season

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- UAB volleyball player Sam Serley continues to wrack up the postseason awards, being named to the AVCA All-Midwest Region First Team.

It marked the third consecutive season that Serley has earned the distinct award, becoming the first UAB volleyball player to capture the honor three times in a career.

In addition, Serley earned First Team All-Conference USA recognition for the second year in a row, while also earning a spot on the league's all-academic and all-tournament teams.

During her distinguished career as a Blazer, Serley broke several records, including both the career total blocks (564) and single-season blocks (185) marks during her final season at UAB.

She also holds the school record for block assists with 428 and finished second in solo blocks (136), hitting percentage (.340) and 10th in kills (1,245) in UAB lore.  Furthermore, Serley became just the second player in program history to eclipse both the 1,000 kill and 500 block plateaus.

For the season, Serley led C-USA in both hitting percentage (.380) and blocks per set (1.46).  

Serley advances on to be considered for All-America consideration, which will be announced by the AVCA on Wednesday, Dec. 12.
