BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Junior Bethanie Thomas of the UAB volleyball team was named the UAB Student-Athlete of the Week, as announced on Wednesday. The UAB Student-Athlete of the Week honors Blazers who standout on and off their respective fields of play.
Thomas and the UAB volleyball team recently concluded regular season play on Sunday, Nov. 17 with a 3-1 victory against Conference USA foe Charlotte. On the year, Thomas ranks fourth on the squad in total kills (248). She also ranks second on the team in total digs (263).
In the classroom, Thomas excels, as well. Thomas owns a 3.93 cumulative GPA in civil engineering. Earlier this week, the civil engineering major was recognized on the Conference USA All-Academic Team. In her first two collegiate seasons, she was named to the SEC Honor Roll as a member of the South Carolina volleyball team.
Thomas and the UAB volleyball team will begin postseason play on Thursday, Nov 21 when the seventh-seeded Blazers take on 10th seeded-Rice. The first round matchup is slated to begin at 7 p.m. CT in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
