BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- Senior Sam Serley continues to leave her mark on the UAB volleyball program, earning a spot on the Conference USA All-Academic Team for third consecutive year, announced by the league office.
Serley has been a model student-athlete during her time as a Blazer, maintaining a 3.75 GPA as a health care management major with a minor in accounting.
The Nashville, Tenn., native is a two-time C-USA Academic Medal winner along with being named to the league’s commissioner’s honor roll each of the last three seasons.
On the court, Serley has been equally impressive, being named a First Team All-Conference USA selection for the second year in a row. The middle blocker set the school record for career blocks in her final regular season match and is just the second player in program lore to reach both the 1,000-kill and 500-block marks in a career.
Against UTEP at the C-USA Tournament, Serley broke the single-season swat record at UAB of 175, which had stood for 23 seasons.
In addition, Serley ranks fourth all-time in C-USA history in career blocks and led the league in both hitting percentage (.384) and blocks per set (1.41) during the regular season.
Serley’s dedication to her academics and the sport of volleyball was shown when she was selected as one of 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award. Fans can vote for Serley at www.seniorclassaward.com through Nov. 26.
