BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB volleyball team will host Alabama on Tuesday, Nov. 5 in its final non-conference match of the season. The match is slated to begin at 7 p.m. CT in Bartow Arena.

It will be the 26th meeting between the two teams in a series that dates back to 1978, UAB’s first year of volleyball. Most recently, the teams faced off Sept. 4, 2010. The Crimson Tide came out on top of that one, 3-1. Alabama holds a 14-11 lead in the series history. 

About the Blazers
UAB (18-10, 5-5 C-USA) has accumulated 1,373 kills for an average of 13.59 kills per set so far this season. The Blazers are third in Conference USA with a .250 attack percentage as a team, while holding opponents to just .198. They are second in the league in service aces and blocks per set, with 1.42 and 2.51 respectively.

Individually, sophomore Sam Skinner leads the offensive attack with 4.23 kills per set and 4.77 points per set. Juniors Sara Rishell and Kiriana Hirini are both averaging a team-best .339 attack percentage. Senior Rachel Fairbanks ranks second in the conference with 4.95 digs per set.

Scouting the Crimson Tide
Alabama (18-6, 6-4 SEC) is coming off of a 3-1 win over Mississippi State this past Friday. The Crimson Tide is ranked in the top 20 nationally in three categories. They are 19th in hitting percentage (.269) and assists per set (13.33) and 20th in kills per set (14.20).


 

 

Individually, Alabama is led by Krystal Rivers who is averaging 3.67 kills per set and hitting at a clip of .448. Setter Sierra Wilson ranks fourth in the nation with 12.01 assists per set. On defense, Kryssi Daniels is grabbing 3.20 digs per set and Rivers has a team-high 0.87 blocks per set.

Club Night
The match has been designated a Club Appreciation Night. Any fans who are in eighth grade or younger can where their club volleyball jersey and receive free admission to the match. The women’s basketball team will also make an appearance and take part in a game of volleyball during intermission.
