BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- After claiming a three-set sweep of Alabama A&M on Tuesday, the UAB volleyball team is set to host a pair of Conference USA matches over the weekend.  The Blazers welcome Southern Miss on Friday for a 7 p.m. CT contest, prior to playing UCF on Sunday at Noon CT.

UAB (10-11, 3-3 C-USA) | Southern Miss (6-12, 2-4) | UCF (6-12, 3-3)

UAB Scouting Report
In the midst of a five-match home stand, UAB owns an overall record of 10-11 with an even tally of 3-3 in league matches.  The Blazers are hitting at a .205 clip overall along with averaging 1.25 aces and 2.41 blocks per set for the season.

Blazers Catching Fire
The Blazers have started to heat up over the past week, winning three straight matches entering the weekend.  UAB captured a pair of wins against Memphis prior to sweeping Alabama A&M on Tuesday.

During the current win streak, the UAB defense has really stepped up.  The Blazers are holding the opposition to a .135 attacking percentage and averaging 2.83 blocks per set as a team.

A number of players have been instrumental in the team’s recent success, including redshirt-freshman Sam Skinner. The Birmingham native has rocketed 37 kills in her last 11 sets for a 3.36 per set average as an outside hitter.  In addition, Sam Serley has averaged 2.40 kills and 1.70 blocks per set, while libero Rachel Fairbanks is collecting digs at a 5.08 per frame rate.

Home Sweet Home
On Friday, UAB will be playing its third consecutive home match and just the sixth of the 2012 season.  The Blazers have faired extremely well at home, boasting a 4-1 record with the lone loss coming in five sets to the Rice Owls.

Magic City Milestones
A pair of UAB seniors – Alison Woods and Sam Serley – have each reached some impressive milestones this season, with a few still in reach during their final campaigns in Green and Gold.

Woods surpassed 1,000 digs in Tuesday’s win vs. Alabama A&M and back on Sept. 7 against Winthrop reached 3,000 career assists.  The Franklin, Tenn., native became just the second player in UAB lore to reach both those milestones in a career, joining former Blazer Tammy Robertson (1989-92).

Serley reached the 1,000-kill plateau back on Sept. 8 against South Carolina and is closing in on 500 career total blocks.  The senior has 485 swats as a Blazer and would become just the second UAB volleyball player to reach both 1,000 kills and 500 blocks in a career.

By reaching 500 blocks, Serley would be just the ninth player in Conference USA history to reach that feat and just the third in the history of UAB volleyball.
