BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB volleyball team (13-7, 2-2 C-USA) will hit the road in Conference USA play for the second-straight week. The Blazers will take on FIU (7-9, 1-3 C-USA) Friday, Oct. 11 at 5 p.m. CT and Florida Atlantic (9-9, 1-3 C-USA) on Sunday, Oct. 13 at 11 a.m. CT. 

Friday's match will be the just the fourth meeting between the Panthers and the Blazers. FIU, who just joined C-USA this season, holds a 2-1 all-time record against UAB. The two teams met twice in 1985, with FIU winning both matches. It was not until 2008 that they met again on the court, as the Blazers won that match 3-1. 

UAB will remain in Florida as it travels to Florida Atlantic on Sunday. Florida Atlantic is another newcomer to the league and this will mark the first meeting between the two teams.

About the Blazers
As a team, UAB has accumulated 1,008 kills for an average of 13.44 per set so far this season. The team currently sports a .252 hitting percentage, while holding opponents to just .193. The Blazers are currently second in the conference with 2.52 blocks per set and 1.35 aces per set.

Individually, sophomore Sam Skinner is leading the attack with 278 kills for an average of 4.15 per set. Junior Kiriana Hirini is hitting a team-best clip of .389 and senior Becca Howard has dished out an average of 11.29 assists per set. Defensively, junior Sara Rishell still holds the top spot in the conference with 1.27 blocks per set and senior Rachel Fairbanks is averaging 4.91 digs per set.


 

 

Scouting the Panthers
FIU enters the match averaging 11.93 kills per set and has a team hitting percentage of .197 on the season. The Panthers are led by Kimberly Smith, who is landing 3.09 kills per set. Smith also leads the team in blocks with 64 total for an average of 1.14 per set.

Scouting the Owls
Florida Atlantic has amassed 831 kills for an average of 12.5 per set in its first 18 games of the season. Alessia Pizzoccheri leads the team with 156 kills, an average of 2.48 per set. Jelen Jovanovic is averaging 8.85 helpers per set for the Owls. Defensively, Nathalie Rosado has collected 236 digs on the season to lead the team.
