Coaches Corner With Kerry Messersmith

UAB Volleyball Fans

We would like to take this opportunity to invite you to become a part of UAB volleyball. Each week we will post a little summary of what is going on in our program so that you are able to follow all the action of your UAB Blazers!

This week looks to be a great test of our team's progress as we have three tough matches on the road. First, we will head to Atlanta on Tuesday to face Georgia State, a team who is traditionally a great team at home. We will then get back into conference play traveling to East Carolina on Friday and Marshall on Sunday. East Carolina is currently 1-4 in the conference and Marshall, the defending conference champion, is 3-2. Both teams will look to challenge every part of our game, which will create for a very exciting weekend.

We had a good week of practice last week and we came up just short in our match at Memphis. It was a contest that saw two teams fight hard throughout the entirety of the match, with us unfortunately walking away with a loss in five games. I feel that we learned a lot about ourselves as a team and I was happy to see our players push hard in such a tough environment.

I would like to take the time to thank each of you who have attended our first three home matches this season. You have definitely played a key role in our victories and I want to encourage you to continue to attend. Your support is what drives our players to succeed. At our next home match, Friday, Oct. 13 at 7 pm against SMU, we will have a tailgate before the match on the front lawn of Bartow Arena starting at 5:30 p.m. so please come join in the fun.

Until next week,

Kerry Messersmith
