UAB (9-3) vs. Chattanooga (0-11)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB volleyball team (9-3) will remain on the road this week as it faces Chattanooga (0-11) on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 6 p.m. CT in Chattanooga, Tenn. The Blazers are currently 2-0 in midweek matches and 3-0 against Southern Conference teams.
This will be the fifth meeting between UAB and Chattanooga. The two teams have not faced each other since the 1997 season when the Blazers outlasted the Mocs 3-1. The Green and Gold have not dropped a match in the series, and are currently 4-0 against UTC.
Blazers' Block Party
In the latest NCAA rankings, UAB is sixth in the nation in blocks as a team. The Blazers are averaging 3.05 blocks per set so far this season. Leading UAB at the net is junior Sara Rishell. She currently holds an average of 1.50 blocks per set. This past week, Rishell had a career-best eight blocks in two of UAB's four matches.
UAB's Offense Firing on all Cylinders
The Blazers have been solid offensively so far this season. Sophomore Sam Skinner is leading the team with 163 kills. Her average of 4.08 kills per set ranks 37th in the NCAA, while she also ranks 37th in points per set with 4.65.
Junior Kiriana Hirini is the team's most efficient hitter, carrying an attack percentage of .436 that ranks 22nd in the nation. UAB is hitting .253 as a team to rank 59th.
Running the Blazer offense is senior Becca Howard, who has dished out 434 helpers on the season. She is averaging 10.85 assists per set, which is currently 39th in the nation.
Scouting the Mocs
Allie Davenport continues to lead the Mocs with 100 kills and 2.70 kills per set, while Anne Bachmann and Briana Reid split time at the setter position recording 169 and 131 assists, respectively.
Melissa Green and Catherine Chason spearhead the Mocs defense with 99 and 149 digs, respectively. Leading the Mocs in blocks are Kasey Talley (27) and Kendall Sexton (23).
