The Blazers finished 3-1 in the tournament to tie for second with Samford (3-1), while No. 6 Minnesota was crowned the champion after finishing a perfect 4-0 over the weekend.
Skinner, a sophomore outside hitter, led the team in kills with 53 in four matches. She hit double-digit kills in three of the four matches over the weekend, including a high of 17 against the Golden Gophers. She tallied an average of 4.08 kills per set to help lead the Blazers to three wins.
Also making the team for the Green and Gold was senior setter Howard. She notched 152 assists, with an average of 11.69 per set during the weekend to lead all players. Her 54 assists against Jacksonville State set a new career-high and were the most by any player in a single match during the tournament.
The Blazers had a solid weekend as they out-hit their opponents 181-142 and held the competition to just .156 attacking percentage. UAB was strong defensively as well, recording 40 blocks in the span of four games.
The Green and Gold will be back in Bartow Arena on Wednesday, Sept. 4 when they host Samford at 7:00 pm CT.
