Aug. 29, 2007
It's hard to believe the 2007 season has already begun! Things have been crazy around here for us, but crazy in a good way. We had a very busy and very productive fall camp and I believe we are much more prepared for the season than we were last year.
The girls have come back with an added confidence this year. The good news is, the added confidence hasn't affected their work ethic. The girls have come back very focused and determined on having another great season and returning to the NCAA Tournament.
Last year was certainly an exciting one for all of us. I will forever remember our run last season and how the girls grew together throughout the year to form what would become the school's first-ever NCAA Tournament team.
Our goals this year focus around mirroring last year's results by continuing to get better each and every day. I'm confident that we can continue to improve because the girls have shown so much chemistry and drive. The returning players have welcomed the newcomers and everyone is buying in to what we want to achieve here at UAB.
We got off to a strong start to the season last weekend at the Music City/Magic City Invitational where we beat Belmont and Lipscomb, 3-0. I saw some things I really liked up in Nashville and I also saw some things we need to still get better at.
I would like to recognize Fernanda Domingos for her great start. Fernanda was named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week for her play last weekend.
This week will be a big week for us and we will really be tested. We will play Troy on Tuesday before going to Tuscaloosa to take part in the Bama Bash on Friday and Saturday. At Alabama, we will play the Crimson Tide as well as Illinois State and Sacramento State. All three teams we'll meet this weekend are very good and will provide us the opportunity to pick up some very quality wins.
To put a date on your calendars, we will be hosting Memphis on Sunday, Sept. 30 at 1 p.m. in Bartow Arena. The match will be televised by CSTV and we want all of our Blazer faithful to come out and support us in what will be a rematch of the 2006 C-USA Tournament championship match.
Wish us luck this week and we hope to see some of you out supporting us in Tuscaloosa!
Until next time,
