COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Junior Sara Rishell is one of 36 athletes selected to participate in the U.S. Collegiate National Team (CNT) program this summer, announced USA Volleyball Tuesday afternoon.
“I am just so honored to be selected,” said Rishell. “I have had a lot of support from my coaches, church family and my parents. I am so thankful that Kerry (Messersmith) gave me the opportunity to go and tryout for the team. I am taking advantage of every opportunity that I receive through this tryout.”
Rishell and the 35 other athletes will head to Minnesota, where they will train and compete in conjunction with the USA Volleyball Girls’ Junior National Championships from June 22 to July 1 in Minneapolis.
The CNT program includes nine middle blockers, nine outside hitters, six opposites, six setters and six liberos. For the third consecutive year, USA Volleyball will have its U.S. Collegiate National Team program (formerly known as U.S. Women’s National A2 Team) represented at the USAV Girls’ Junior National Championships.
A 2013 Second-Team All-Conference USA selection, Rishell played in all 124 sets for the Blazers and led the team in blocks with 142 on the season. Rishell also put down a team-best 387 kills to average 3.12 kills per set.
“It is such an honor to be selected for the team and I am very grateful for the opportunity,” remarked Rishell.
After the training portion of the program, the 36 athletes will be divided into three equal teams which will compete in a round-robin event June 27-30. The round-robin event may add an international team to increase the field to four teams that would complete June 26-30. This program is considered a second tryout for the U.S. Women’s National Team.
