MB Kirsten Gallagher hit .500 in the win over EKU

SOUTH BEND, Ind. ---- A strong attacking effort, led by Kate Morrell, allowed the UAB volleyball team to cruise to a 3-0 (25-14, 25-16, 25-21) sweep of the Eastern Kentucky Colonels on Saturday afternoon at Purcell Pavilion.
UAB (2-4) will close out play at the Shamrock Invitational on Sunday against Buffalo. First serve is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. CT.
Morrell posted a double-double, connecting for a match-high 13 kills, hitting at a .357 clip. She also topped the Blazers in digs with 11 and added two block assists.
In the middle, Kirsten Gallagher did not commit an error on the attacking end, recording six kills on 12 attacks for a .500 hitting percentage. She added six digs and two blocks to her stat line.
Sam Serley pitched in with seven kills and five block assists in the victory for the Blazers.
UAB came out sharp against EKU (2-3), hitting at a .455 clip, nailing down 12 kills on 22 attacks with only two errors as the Blazers captured the opening set from start to finish.
In the second frame, five different players recorded multiple kills as UAB continued on its torrid streak to take a 2-0 lead in the set.
However, EKU would not go down without a fight in the third stanza, as the frame featured 12 ties and five lead changes. With the score tied, 21-21, the Blazers went on a 4-0 spurt to take the set and match vs. the Colonels.
Kelsey Kuehner led EKU in attacks with 10, while Dena Ott posted a match-high 15 digs.
