BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Graduate student Kate Brown of the UAB track and field team is the UAB Student-Athlete of the Week, as announced on Wednesday. The UAB Student-Athlete of the Week recognizes Blazer student-athletes who standout on and off their respective fields of play.

Brown and the UAB track field team open its indoor season on Friday at the Birmingham Southern Ice Breaker. The event marks the first of four events that the Blazers will participate in at the Birmingham CrossPlex this season.

The Surrey, England native recorded two top-six finishes during the 2013 cross country season, helping the UAB cross country team to two team titles.

Off the track, Brown excels in the classroom, as well. The communications management graduate student owns a 4.0 cumulative GPA. Earlier this year, she was named to the 2013 Conference USA Women’s Cross Country All-Academic Team. In addition, she earned 2012 Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll and Conference USA Academic Medal accolades.
