UAB's Elinor Kirk was named to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America Division I Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Second Team, CoSIDA announced on Thursday.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – UAB track and field’s Elinor Kirk was named to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America Division I Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country Second Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced on Thursday.
Kirk’s academic honor marks the fifth Academic All-America accolade for the Blazers’ program in the past four years. Rhiannon Johns earned the honor three times and high jumper Nora Mehl was a first-team honoree in 2011.
Kirk just recently completed her UAB track career, picking up All-America honors in both the 5,000-meter and 10,000-meter runs at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. She earned First-Team All-America honors in the 10K after finishing a very close second and backed that up with a seventh-place finish in the 5K to put the Blazers’ 22nd as a team at the championships.
The Swansea, Wales ran the nation’s fastest time in the 10K all season and was named Conference USA Track Performer of the 2014 C-USA Outdoor Championship. She was also named the USTFCCCA South Region Track Athlete of the Year following her very successful 2013-14 season.
