BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – UAB graduate student Elinor Kirk was named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team, the league office announced on Wednesday.
“This is another great honor for Eli,” head coach Kurt Thomas said. “It's very clear from her athletic performances that she knows what it takes to be successful, but as student-athletes, they have more responsibility than just athletics and Eli has proven to know how to be successful in the classroom as well. We have so many ladies who excel in the classroom and we're proud of them all.”
The Swansea, Wales native has certainly got the job done on the track for UAB this season, but has also been very successful in the classroom. She totaled a 4.0 GPA this year pursuing a graduate degree in communication management.
Ahead of this weekend’s NCAA East Preliminary Meet, Kirk has multitudes of accolades on the track and is fresh off two wins at the Conference USA Championship in the 1,500-meter run and 5,000-meter run. She broke the 16-year-old league mark in the 1,500 in her first attempt in the race this season and then went on to win the 5K by more than 34 seconds.
Kirk holds the nation’s best time in the 10K, a 32:17.05, and 11th-best time in the 5K, both events she will be running in this weekend in Jacksonville, Fla.
