BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB track and field team will hit the road this weekend for competition at the nearby War Eagle Invite and Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif.
A majority of the Blazers’ squad will make the short trip to Auburn for Saturday’s running and field events, while three members of the team – Elinor Kirk, Kate Brown and Sarah Livett – will compete in distance events at the Mt. SAC Relays.
As a team UAB is up to No. 49 in the country in the latest USTFCCCA (United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) rankings, just two behind East Carolina, who checks in as the top C-USA team.
“Auburn is going to be an important meet for us,” head coach Kurt Thomas said. “Most of our team will be competing in their primary events. We've all worked hard to clean those up and Auburn is the next opportunity to do that and post some great performances.”
UAB will open competition in Auburn at 11 a.m. on Saturday with field events. Running events are slated to begin at 12 p.m. and run through 6:30 p.m.
Freshman Sarah Livett will open competition for UAB in California with action in the 10,000m run. She is set to compete at either 7:45 p.m. or 9:04 p.m. at the Mt. SAC Relays Thursday night.
Kirk will look to continue her dominant success this season as she gears up to run the 5,000m invitational at 8:17 p.m. Friday. Kate Brown will also compete in the 5,000m olympic development race at 7:44 p.m. Friday night.
