Track And Field Set For Tiger Track Classic

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--The UAB track and field team is to compete at the Tiger Track Classic, hosted by Auburn, at the Hutsell-Rosen Track on Saturday.

The field events are scheduled to start at 11 a.m. CT, with the women's pole vault, while the running events will begin at Noon CT with the women's 4x100m relay.

Last time out, the Blazers, who are ranked at No. 10 in the USTFCCCA south region, competed at both the Stanford Invite in Palo Alto, Calif., and the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas.

Redshirt senior Rhiannon Johns demolished the UAB record in the 10,000m at Stanford, finishing at 33:29.99. Elizabeth Ambrus held the previous record with a time of 34:07.95, set in 2006.

In the 5000m, junior Elinor Kirk finished fourth in her section with a school record time of 16:07.13, breaking Johns' record of 16:13.32, which was set in 2011.

At the Texas Relays, junior Alexis Bates ran a team-best 100m dash with a time of 12.06, while senior Rachel Harley led the Blazers in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:00.33.

Up next, the Blazers will split up once more as the sprinters and hurdlers travel to Nashville, Tenn., for the Vanderbilt Invitational, April 19-20. On the same weekend, the distance runners will return to California to partake in the Mt. Sac Relays.
