BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--The UAB track and field team heads down to Tuscaloosa, Ala., on Friday and Saturday to compete the 2013 John Mitchell Alabama Relays.
Friday's field events are scheduled to start at 2 p.m. CT with the men's hammer throw, while the running events will start at 5 p.m. CT with the women's 4x200m relay.
On Saturday, the women's hammer throw will lead off the field events at 11 a.m. CT, while the running events start at 6 p.m. CT with the women's 4x100m relay.
Last week, the Blazers opened the outdoor season by winning four events at the Samford Invite.
UAB started with a win in the 4x100m relay, with the team of Shakima Knox, Angel Watson, Autumnn Burnett and Lytrice Thomas finishing with a time of 46.73.
The Blazers then swept the top three of the 1500m run, and finished with six runners in the top eight. Junior Elinor Kirk won with a time of 4:27.25, and was followed by senior Rhiannon Johns, who ran a 4:29.86. In third, senior Sarah Hudak crossed the finish line with a time of 4:34.54.
Sophomore Jessica Shelley won the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.89, and junior Alexis Bates followed with a win in the 200m dash with a time of 24.86.
Following this weekend's competition, the Blazers will travel to Austin, Texas to compete in the Texas Relays, March 27-30.
