BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—UAB track and field junior Elinor Kirk has been named UAB’s Student Athlete of the Week for her performance on the track and in the classroom.
Pursuing a graduate degree in communication management, Kirk currently owns a 4.0 GPA and is the 2013 Conference USA Indoor Champion in the 3000m. The Swansea, Wales, U.K. native broke both school and meet records for the event, contested Feb. 23-24, with a time of 9:23.36.
At the conference championship, Kirk also finished in second in the mile with a time of 4:43.73—nearly two seconds under the previous meet record. On the first day of competition, Kirk finished in second place in the 5000m, crossing the finish line at 16:33.35.
Over the two-day meet, Kirk earned 26 points toward UAB’s team total, and was named high point scorer of the meet for her efforts. The Blazers finished third overall with a team total of 83 points, their best finish since collecting 77 points in 2005.
Kirk was also recently named to the UCTFCCCA All-Academic Team for her performance in the classroom.
