NASHVILLE, Tenn.--The UAB track and field team posted seven top-five finishes on Saturday in the final day of competition at the Vanderbilt Invite.
"We accomplished some really good things at Vanderbilt,” head coach Kurt Thomas said. “We has several PRs, some good performances for the C-USA list, and a few really good NCAA East Region marks.”
In the 100m dash, junior Alexis Bates finished second with a season-best time of 11.69, while senior Shakima Knox finished in fourth with a time of 11.81. Also for UAB, junior Renay Ransaw crossed the finish line at 12.68.
Redshirt junior Angel Watson finished the 200m dash in fourth at a season best 24.31, while Knox finished at 24.97 and White finished at 25.28. Freshman Breona Humphrey crossed the finish line at 26.30.
In the 400m dash, White finished with a mark of 55.73 for sixth overall, while Humphrey finished 11th at 57.23.
Senior Rachel Harley finished third overall in the 400m hurdles with a season best time of 58.80. Senior Lytrice Thomas crossed the finish line in eighth with a time of 1:01.28, while Burnett finished at 1:03.20.
The 4x100m relay team `A' of White, Watson, Knox and Bates finished third overall with a season best time of 45.93.
“We experimented with the 4x100 and got a decent result,” Thomas said. “We have some technical things to work on before conference, but saw some good possibilities. Kyana (White) and Breona (Humphrey) ran very well, and can still improve on some things. Alexis (Bates) put together a good 100m, against some good sprinters and got a very good PR.”
The `A' team for the 4x400 relays team of Watson, Harley, White and Thomas finished the race at a season best 3:43.13 for second place, while the `B' team of Knox, Burnett, Humphrey and Bates finished in seventh with a time of 3:59.99.
“I'm very proud on the 400m hurdlers and the 4x400,” Thomas said. “The ladies put together some really good races and got some confidence going into conference. Rachel (Harley) got a huge PR, and moved up the NCAA East list. I'm real proud of what the ladies got out of the weekend. We have a few weeks to tune up and get ready for the C-USA Championships."
Up next, the sprinters and hurdlers will reunite with the distance crew to compete at the Samford Invite on Saturday, April 27.
