AUBURN, Ala.--The UAB track and field team posted a successful Saturday as the Blazers competed at the Tiger Track Classic, hosted by Auburn at the Hutsell-Rosen Track.

"We had a good, productive day," head coach Kurt Thomas said. "We had great conditions, which led to a lot of season bests. In a long season like indoor and outdoor track, when a whole group puts together a good meet with a lot of season bests, it means that we're on track to be our best at the end of the season."

In the 4x100m relay, the team of senior Shakima Knox, redshirt junior Angel Watson, junior Kyana White and junior Alexis Bates posted a top-five finish with a season-best time of 45.53.

"Shakima (Knox) and the 4x100m relay team ran very well, as did Kyana (White) and Angel (Watson) in all their races," Thomas continued. "We've been racing a lot and the ladies did a great job of managing that. We'll go back to training and keep preparing for the championship portion of our season."

White also ran a Blazer season-best 56.09 in the 400m dash, while freshman Breona Humphrey ran a 58.30.

Knox posted a top-10 finish in the 100m dash, finishing with a time of 11.76, a season best for herself and the Green and Gold. Bates finished the race with another sub-12 second time of 11.88.

Also running the 200m dash, Watson finished with a time of 24.19, another season best for UAB.

Senior Rachel Harley finished in seventh place in the 400m hurdles, running a season-best time of 1:00.10, while fellow senior Lytrice Thomas finished at 1:01.76, also a season best.

In the 100m hurdles, sophomore Jessica Shelley led the Blazer sprinters as she clocked a 14.08 in her section, while freshman Autumnn Burnett ran a 14.29, which marks her season best. Also for UAB, sophomore Shelby Barker ran a 15.98.

In the 4x400m relay, the team of Thomas, Harley, Burnett and Humphrey crossed the finish line at 3:52.03.

Junior Renay Ransaw finished with a best of 5.49m (18-00.25) in the long jump for UAB's second-best distance of the outdoor season.

For the 3000m, sophomore Lauren Scott and junior Anna Jarman posted a pair of top-10 finishes with times of 10:16.56 and 10:28.58, respectively.

Up next, the Blazers will split up once more as the sprinters and hurdlers travel to Nashville, Tenn., for the Vanderbilt Invitational, April 19-20. On the same weekend, the distance runners will return to California to partake in the Mt. Sac Relays.
