UAB Opens Competition at Alabama Relays

The Blazers will complete competition at the Alabama Relays on Saturday.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The UAB track and field team opened its 2014 outdoor season on Friday at the Alabama Relays and will wrap-up competition in Tuscaloosa on Saturday.

Kate Brown was UAB’s high finisher on the day, placing first in the 5,000m run with a 16:43.12. Sarah Livett came in seventh in the race with a 17:25.81, while Lauren Scott and Allison Wortel ran a 18:04.72 and 21:05.91, respectively.

UAB’s 4x200 meter relay team of Kandiss Briggs, Kyana White, Shakima Knox and Angel Watson placed second in the event (1:37.48), while the 1,600 sprint medley team finished 11th with a 4:23.10.

Renay Ransaw finished 16th in the 100-meter dash with a 12:60, while Fanta Diabate finished 10th in the 400-meter after a 57.92, and Breona Humphrey 18th with a 58.96.



Shelby Barker picked up a top-10 finish after a jump of 1.60m (5-3) in the high jump to finish eighth, while Kendra Gipson was 13th in the triple jump after a 11.71m (38-5).                          

The final day of the Alabama Relays is slated to begin at 12 p.m. on Saturday. Results will be available online at and also will be on following the meet.
