MOBILE, Ala. – The UAB women’s track & field opened up its 2017 spring schedule at the Jaguars Classic on Friday and Saturday hosted by South Alabama. The Blazers had multiple quality performances across the opening day as they took third out of five teams in the event, registering 35 points.
“We started the outdoor season well,” said UAB head coach Kurt Thomas. “We wanted to see where we were at after indoor and a few weeks of training and had to get used to some outdoor events. Overall I was pleased. There wasn't much letdown from indoor and many girls either PR’ed or set outdoor season opening best marks. Zeiandrea Bridges’ hammer was a good sign for her. Ali Meister threw the javelin well. The 4x100 ran very well and just missed a handoff to win and run a fast time. Karri Green ran a very fast 400m and set a PR by almost 2 seconds. We are setting ourselves up for some big performances over the next few weeks."
Green completed the 400 Meters in 54.88 seconds, the third-fastest time in the event and setting a new personal-best.
Meister had competed well in the 100 Meter Hurdles (14.72 – third) and set a new personal-best in the Javelin Throw (31.61 meters).
Bridges mark in the Hammer Throw went 43.15 meters which was a new personal-best from last season by over four meters.
UAB gets to stay close to home next weekend as they make the short trip to compete at the Samford Invitational. That is a one-day event on Friday, March 24.
