NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Three members of the UAB track and field team opened up competition at the Vanderbilt Indoor Invite on Friday night at the Vanderbilt Student Rec Center.
With field events and only the distance medley relay and 5,000-meter run taking place Friday night, UAB had just three members compete as the majority of the Blazers are set to be in action Saturday.
Shelby Barker finished 11th in the women’s high jump finals with a leap of 5-4 ½ (1.64m) while Akira McSwain scored a 13-8 ¾ (4.18m) in the long jump to finish 28th. Kelli Smith also competed in long jump but fouled in her attempt and did not record a score.
Action from the Vanderbilt Indoor Invite will continue Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. and is scheduled to run through 5 p.m.
