BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB women's tennis team has signed Catherine Ragon of Mandeville, La., to a National Letter of Intent, head coach Lisa Jackson announced Friday.

Ragon, who is set to graduate from Mandeville High School in May of 2013, will join the Blazers for the start of the 2013 fall season.

"Catherine is a great addition to the Blazer family," Jackson said. "She is a perfect fit for the team and will make an immediate and positive impact for this program."

Ragon is a four-star prospect according to tennisrecruiting.net after building a 35-28 overall record at her high school. That same recruiting service also gives her a No. 2 overall ranking in the state of Louisiana.

She holds an impressive 29-23 record against players who are ranked as three-star prospects or higher, including an impressive 21-0 mark against three-star athletes.

UAB opens the 2013 spring season on Feb. 2 when the Blazers host Kennesaw State.
