Women's Tennis Heads To ITA South Regional at Georgia

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB women's tennis team continues its fall schedule this weekend with a trip to the ITA South Regional, hosted by the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga. The event features two 64-player flights of singles competition with first-match consolation and two 32-team flights of doubles action. Play begins Friday with the first two rounds of singles and continues through Monday, when the finals of each bracket will be contested. "This is going to be a great opportunity for our girls to play against some of the best competition in the country," UAB head coach Krissy Hall said. "As we look forward to our spring season, this tournament will give us a good idea of where we stand as a team." The South Regional is one of eight regional tournaments being staged across the country this weekend. In addition to UAB, 20 other schools will be competing at the Georgia site: Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida A&M, Florida Gulf Coast, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Georgia Tech, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Miami (Fla.), Mississippi, Mississippi State, Samford, South Florida, Stetson, Troy and UCF. The tournament features 14 of the top 125 players in the ITA singles rankings and four doubles teams ranked in the ITA's top 50. The winner and runner-up of the A singles flight along with the winner of the A doubles bracket will advance to the ITA National Indoor Championships, scheduled for Nov. 6-9 at the University of Virginia. Tournament draws for this weekend will be available Thursday night on the Georgia athletics website at www.georgiadogs.com. Daily results will also be posted on the site.
