Blazers Conclude First Day At Samford Fall Invite

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB women’s tennis team concluded the first day of action at the Samford Fall Invitational on Friday night. The Blazers faced Middle Tennessee in doubles and South Alabama in singles play.

“We played two tough teams tonight,” said head coach Lisa Jackson. “I thought they showed great competitiveness, now we just need to bounce back tomorrow.”

UAB’s pair of junior Rachel Daniell and senior Caroline Faught grabbed a doubles win for the Blazers.They defeated Middle Tennessee’s pair of Tiffany William and Sarah Sediri, 8-4. 

In singles, the Blazers faced off with South Alabama and had two wins on the evening. Freshman Giovanna Baccarini scored a straight-set win over Laura Valkova, 6-3, 6-4. Also grabbing a win for UAB was Simon, who defeated Silvia Martinkova 6-3, 6-7(5), 6-3.  

The Blazers will return to the court tomorrow for the second day of action in the Samford Fall Invitational beginning at 10 a.m. CT.
