BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB women's tennis team will be back in action this weekend, Oct. 5-6, as the squad travels to Tuscaloosa, Ala., for the 25th annual Roberta Alison Fall Classic. The Blazers will join 14 other teams from across the nation, with matches to be played at The University of Alabama Tennis Stadium or the Student Recreation Center courts.
The tournament will be broken into eight singles and eight doubles draws in the two-day event.
UAB enters the weekend after a successful outing at the Steve Baras Fall Classic in Chattanooga, Tenn., on Sept. 28-30. The Blazers won five matches on the final day of the tournament, with three of the wins earning consolation finals victories – two in doubles – while sophomore Rachel Daniell brought home the No. 2 singles flight championship.
Included in the field are host Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia State, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Middle Tennessee, Michigan, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Northwestern, Samford and Vanderbilt along with the Blazers. Of the 15 teams participating in the tournament, six of them finished in the top 25 nationally and eight in the top 50 last season.
Match play at the Roberta Alison Fall Classic is slated to begin on Friday at 9 a.m. CT with the first round of doubles followed immediately by the first round of singles. The second round of singles will be played after breaking for lunch. Saturday will also begin at 9 a.m. CT with the final two rounds of doubles and the last round of singles following a lunch break.
