BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- UAB freshman women’s tennis player Pardis Kianoush has been named an All-Conference USA Singles Third Team selection, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Kianoush, a native of Brighton, England, just completed an impressive first season for the Blazers’ women’s tennis team. Playing mostly at the No. 3 singles position, she led UAB with 12 singles wins, including a 3-3 mark against C-USA opponents.
Not only did Kianoush total the most singles victories on the team, but she also teamed with fellow freshman Paula Castro to pick up 10 doubles wins in 2013-14 – the second-most for the Blazers.
“I am so glad the conference has recognized Pardis for her hard work this season,” head coach Mark Tjia said. “A lot of people may not know this but Pardis actually played injured most of the year, so for her to lead us in singles wins in her first year playing collegiate tennis was an absolutely unbelievable accomplishment.”
Kianoush was instrumental in UAB’s opening-round win at the Conference USA Championship, picking up a 6-3, 6-1 victory against UTEP’s Marie LeBlond at the No. 3 spot. The 4-2 win for the Blazers marked UAB’s first victory in the C-USA Women’s Tennis Championship since 2005.
Her success did not end on the court for the Blazers. Kianoush was also a stellar student, earning the Conference USA Academic Medal and placing on the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll in her first season at UAB.
