BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- UAB women's tennis player Isabel Fernandez has been named to the 2013 Conference USA All-Singles Third Team, it was announced by the league office on Monday.
A native of Gijon, Spain, Fernandez boasted a team-high 15-4 dual match singles record, playing primarily at the No. 1 position. She finished the season on a five-match win streak and won seven of her last nine on the year.
"I am so happy for Isa (Isabel)," head coach Lisa Jackson said. "Her energy and fight in both singles and doubles really carried our team this year. She had a tremendous year at the No. 1 singles position and her and Elaine (Simon) played well all season at the No. 3 doubles court. I could not be happier for her and this outstanding accomplishment."
Fernandez, who led the Blazers to their best record since the 2007 season with a 12-8 mark in 2012-13, is the first UAB women's tennis player since Evelien Strijker in 2009 to be named an All-C-USA performer.
Fernandez has a 30-30 (.500) overall record in singles and a 30-19 (.612) mark in doubles action in her UAB career.
