Conference USA announced today from its league office in Chicago that senior Mirela Vladulescu of the 51st-ranked UAB women's tennis team was chosen as the C-USA Player of the Week. This is the second straight week for Vladulescu to earn this honor.
In the past week, Vladulesu, ranked 30th in the nation in singles, defeated Mississippi State's Amelie Detriviere, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, despite the Blazers first loss of the season to the 48th-ranked Bulldogs. In doubles action, Vladulesu and partner Monika Schmid defeated MSU's Claudia Oliveira and Carole Soubis, 8-4 at No. 1 singles. In the Blazers win over Houston, improving their season record to 17-1, she beat 94th-ranked Sarah Borwell, 6-2, 6-7, 6-4 at no. 1 singles.
A native of Leimen, Germany, Vladulescu is currently 17-0 in dual match play (27-1 overall) and 12-3 (20-4 overall) in doubles play with partner Monika Schmid.
