Mirela Vladulescu Named C-USA Women's Tennis Player Of The Week

Mirela Vladulescu of the UAB women's tennis team was named Conference USA Player of the Week, announced March 28.

The senior from Leimen, Germany, led the Blazers to two wins last weekend at the no. 1 singles and doubles positions, improving UAB's dual match record to 16-0. Vladulescu, ranked 30th nationally, defeated Michelle Neveklovska of Syracuse 7-6, 6-1 and Gailor Large of Princeton 6-4, 6-0. She improved her record to 15-0 in dual match play and 25-1 overall. Ranked 40th nationally with partner Monika Schmid, the doubles team defeated Neveklovska and Zuzanna Borucka of Syracuse 8-6 and Kavitha Krishnamurthy and Large of Princeton 8-2. The duo improved their dual match record to 11-2 and overall record to 19-3.

The Blazers will compete again on March 30 as they travel to Starkville, Miss. to take on Mississippi State at 2:30 p.m. UAB then returns home on Monday April 2 for their last home match of the season. The Blazers will play host to Houston at 11:00 a.m. at the Brook Highland Racquet Club.
