BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Saturday's women's tennis match between UAB and Chattanooga at Brook Highland Racquet Club was suspended during doubles play because of rain. The team match was not completed, and no makeup date has been set.

The Blazers' No. 1 doubles team of Evelien Strijker and Paula Alvarez won the only finished match of the day, defeating Chattanooga's Shaina Singh and Emily Hangstefer, 8-4.

UAB's Jessica Orton and Ceylan Engin were leading 7-4 and on the brink of winning the No. 3 doubles match when play was called. Jenny Cape and Brittany DeFelice were trailing at the No. 2 spot.

Saturday's match had been scheduled for a Noon CT start, but wet court conditions from rain Friday and during the overnight period forced the match to be delayed two hours until 2 p.m. Approximately 45 minutes after play began, rain started to fall again, forcing the match to be suspended.

The match with Chattanooga is the third contest this weekend to be affected by weather for UAB. The Blazers' Friday match against Washington (Md.) College was rained out, and their match Sunday at Kennesaw State had already been postponed because of expected inclement weather.

UAB is now scheduled to return to action Tuesday. The Blazers will host Mercer at Brook Highland with first serve set for 2 p.m. CT.
