BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB women's tennis team is home for two matches this weekend. The Blazers are slated to play Friday against Washington (Md.) College on campus at the 11th Avenue South tennis courts and Saturday against Chattanooga at Brook Highland Racquet Club.
Friday's match is scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. CT start, while Saturday's action is slated for Noon CT.
UAB (2-3) will look to bounce back from a tough 4-3 loss Wednesday at Samford. The Blazers split the six singles matches with Evelien Strijker (No. 1), Paula Alvarez (No. 3) and Ceylan Engin (No. 6) picking up wins, but UAB lost the doubles point, which proved to be decisive.
The Blazers are a perfect 2-0 at home this season after victories last week over Jacksonville State and North Florida. Friday's match will be the third of the season at the 11th Avenue South facility, located between 16th and 17th Street South. Saturday's match will be the first for the Blazers at Brook Highland in 2009.
Washington College enters Friday's action at 1-0 after a season-opening victory Sunday over West Chester. The Shorewomen are also scheduled to play Huntingdon on Friday morning on their trip to Birmingham.
Chattanooga is 2-6 for the spring season after a 5-2 loss last Saturday to Jacksonville State. The Mocs won their first two dual matches of the year but enter Saturday's contest with losses in six straight.
UAB was also scheduled to travel to Kennesaw State on Sunday, but that match has been postponed because of expected inclement weather. A makeup date for the match has not yet been announced.
