Women's Tennis Gears Up For Weekend Matches

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- UAB women’s tennis sets its sights on a pair of weekend matches with a trip to No. 59 Auburn on Saturday, followed by the Conference USA opener against Southern Miss on Sunday.

First serve for UAB’s match against the Tigers is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT, while Sunday’s contest at George Ward Park is slated for 11:30 a.m. CT.

The Blazers enter the weekend with a 6-2 record after falling to Chattanooga, 5-1, on Thursday. No. 1 and No. 2 singles players Isabel Fernandez and Rachel Daniell each took their first loss of the season against the Mocs.

Auburn enters Saturday’s matchup with an 8-1 record after knocking off No. 21 Texas Tech, 5-2. The win marks AU’s third victory over a ranked opponent this season.

In Sunday’s Conference USA opener, UAB plays a Southern Miss squad that has yet to pick up a win this season. The Golden Eagles are 0-6 on the year after falling to Tulane, 4-0, on Wednesday.

Following Sunday’s clash at George Ward Park, UAB hosts USC Upstate on March 2 at 10 a.m. CT.
